Adaptive Power on a '00 E320???

We purchased a '00 E320 several weeks ago and the one thing that I couldn't help noticing was it felt "soft" in the rpm range. Acceleration was just ok, not WOW like I remember the 95 E320 that I used to own.

Ive been driving it for the last few days exclusively (typically my wife drives the car), and of course my foot has been to the floor the whole time. I started noticing last night that the engine felt much stronger with a hard charge to redline. I of course had to confirm this at almost every stoplight along with a quick run to 110mph on the highway and it's not my imagination, this thing is really starting to wake up. My question is will the ECU adjust power output depending on learned conditions? I'm pretty sure I read the tranny will but was wondering about the engine.

Thanks,

Dale

The fuel computer doesn't adapt to your inputs like the transmission does.

Thanks Doc, maybe it is in my head. I could swear it feels much stronger now though. Maybe some of it is from all of the TLC I've been giving it lately. The car had been neglected to a degree and needed most everything in the way of maintenance. I've still got to flush the brake fluid, coolant and power steering, then all of the fluids will be new. It's really starting to shape up, I'm just glad I've been able to do most of it myself because I'd be in the poor house if I had to pay my local MB dealer to do it....
