I was driving along today in my 88 420sel at 60 MPH, when the engine cut out completely. After I pulled over to the side of the road, the engine started as normal, and I continued on my way.

The only thing I can figure is that the ignition switch may have been not fully in the on position. Is there a computer in this car that could have caused this?

Dough, ...check your fuel pump relay and/or OVP. You may need to replace these parts.

Doug, I agree with Rudy. There are a number of posts on this site referring to problems similar to yours. I've had the same thing happen and indeed it always turned out to be the Fuel Pump Relay. When these go south, it virtually disables the entire engine. Also, be sure to check the fuse on the OVP Relay (should be located on the top of the relay) prior to relacing it.
