Brakes and Shifting

I have a 1991 190E 2.6 with the automatic trans. i have started to get brake fade and sometimes a soft pedal. At the same time I started getting a rough shifting pattern from 1-2 aned 2-3. Can these 2 problems be related?? If so any help would be appreciated

Possibly...I would check the Vacuum Modulator on the transmission. When I replaced mine it was leaking and causing transmission fluid to be sucked into the intake manifold.
After replacement, it shifted smooth between gears.
Follow the vacuum line from the VM to the intake and see if there is trans. fluid in the line. Or, you could have a vacuum leak in the line.

Good luck,

Dave
