1984 SEC question.

I just purchased an 84 SEC euro with about 130K miles, with maintence records from day 1, The PO told me the engine is finished.

Are there any tests I can do to determine if the engine is good, (compression test) etc.

If worst case scenario the engine timing chain jumped what parts can be saved. (whats worth keeping)

No water in oil, haven't had a chance to try to start the car yet.

make sure the chain isnt broken first then, verify correct timing. only then can you do your compression and leakdown tests. If the chain jumped and bent valves are the only problem, they're not that bad to do. If the car was overheated badly on the other hand.... find another engine.

Pull the valve covers to see if the chain is intact. If so, slowly turn the engine by hand to see if all alignment marks are in sync. It will be easier to turn the engine by hand if you remove the spark plugs. If you encounter any resistance (other than compression if the plugs are installed), don't turn the engine further. Don't turn the engine CCW under any circumstance.
