W124 front-end thunk
When our car is parked and stationary, and I turn the wheels left or right, there is a point while turning that I hear a thunk. I can feel it slightly on the steering wheel, but more so on the tranny tunnel.
I do NOT hear the noise when moving either straight or turning. Is this wheel bearings or control-arm bushings noise (both original, approx. 110K miles) ? I jacked up the front and pulled on the front wheel and it doesn't seem to move, and when spinning it, it doesn't make any grinding sound. What should I do next ? TIA, :-) neil |
center drag link comes close to tranny tunnel.
how about idler arm bushings.... pretty easy fix. this is something where you need the second person underneath the car finding out where the "thunk" is.... |
It is definitely the wheel bearings.
Should I just adjust them; re-pack & adjust them; or install new bearings ? BTW: would you use the Mercedes "green" grease, or Mobil 1 synthetic "pink" grease ? TIA, :-) neil |
