Re 300e Transmission
Thank you to all for info on the trans repair that would not up shift. We're running fine and following are some items that may help others.
1. No up shift and the govenor was not turning with drive shaft rotation. 2. I could not unclip the govenor snap ring for its removal. Had to pull the transmission. 3. Yes, the plastic drive gear was split. Keep looking. The govenor drives the secondary oil pump. The pump was locked up with a light spring and a plastic chunk. Running now OK without the spring (?). 4. Then the oil pump would lock up when screwed back in tight. This did not make sense as it had to run for the previous 150,000 miles. The gears protruded a thousandths or two beyound the case. I had them planed down to a clearance. 5. The oil pump case leaked on reassembly. The only way to stop it was a kit from the dealer. They are specific metric Orings and nothing else would work. 6. Was tempted to leave the oil pump "stop piston" out on reassembly and avoid the govenor interaction all together. I understand the secondary oil pump has no function other than building pressure for a pull start. But I went back stock. 7. Parts and repair were OK and made sense. The major work was the transmission removal and installation. |
