Just wondering if this is normal for these older cars, but I've noticed lately, that when checking my oil level in my car when it's cold (been sitting overnight or for several hours) that the oil has travelled up the dipsitck to about three times the max oil level. However, when wiping the stick and re-dipping it, the level is fine. I haven't seen this in my old Honda so I was just thinking this might be how th older cars work.
Am I right or do I have a problem? Thanks, AARON ROCHARD 1976 230.4 W115 |

Aaron,
Did you add any after market oil treatment stuff into the engine? Some of the oil treatment keep a film of oil on the surface where the oil has passed thru. If not, I think your engine have too much blow-by pushing oil up the dip stick tube while the engine is running. I am just guessing. David |

I had added an oli treatment (I believe it was Wynn's) about a year ago, but have changed the oil many times since. I currently use Mobil 1, 15W50 Synthetic.
Hope this helps. Thanks, AARON ROCHARD 1976 230.4 W115 |

My 500SEL does the same, it is oil gravity feeding it's way to the crankcase after it cools down. Don't worry, it's normal provided the level checks O.K. after a wipe !
