300e Stuck Accelerator HELP

Was headed down fdr highway in NYC and my accelerator got stuck!!! After a harrowing few near misses I was able to pull off the highway and slam the brakes and cut the engine. After that every time I started the car(neutral) the rpm kept goign up and up. I pumped the accelerator...tried to pull up the kickdown switch...its pops up and down but still the revs keep going up. I did some searches on the forum but need some precise advise as to what to do exactly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. To think I just spent 2K putting a new engine in. The car is on the street and I have go do something right away.

p,s How can Mercedes have a fault like this...its a disaster waiting to happen...that almost did.

Stuck accelerator

Have you taken out the air filter and looked at the accelerator linkage? It is all spread out to look at and it is pretty complex. There are many pivots and ball connectors. If you try moving the various parts, you should be able to tell if the problem is in the cable (from pedal to lnkage) or in one of the linkage pivots/connectors.

When I do an oil change I always lubricate the linkage since I have the air cleaner off to reach the oil filter. I use a Valvoline synthetic oil in a spray can with tube to get the oil right into the pivots and ball connectors. :D

your accelerator linkage is stuck somewhere, take it all apart, check that it doesnt contact anything else and LUBE it all!

Lubing the throttle linkage

Can the ball joints on this be separated and cleaned and lubed? It's such a pain and a mess to try and squirt lube into every one.

 I think it would be a good idea to make sure that whoever installed the engine didn't damage anything that could've led to your unfortunate near-catastrophe.
