Cleaning A/C evaporator - W202

I have some issues with proper cooling, and supect it might be the evaporator that is dirty (leaves etc).

Is there an easy way to clean the evaporator. How?

I see on other models (couldnt find anything on w202) that the whole dash needs to be rermoved. Is this also true for W202.

Thanks

Don't know about the 202, but on the 124 you can clean the evaporator after removing the blower motor from outside.

I've never seen a 202 with a cooling problem due to a dirty evaporator. What kind of problems are you having?

A while back I didnt use my aircon for a few months, as it was winter. The with the first warm days when I needed it, it didnt make cold at all. Took it to dealership: regassed, apparently no leaks. From then aircon does not make as cold as it use to (when it was still working - previous summer).

When I put my hand on the silver metal part of aircon pipe in engin compartment, it feels very cold. What I do feel, however (with my hand on pipe), is that the compressor is cycling on/off in about 30sec intervals.

I read somewhere that if "cold" is not removed from evaporator eficiently, it will also cut out (although "cold" is availible, it cannot be transfered to cabin). That why I thought evaporator may be dirty or something.

What else could it be?

You need to get a set of guages on the system and verify the correct operating pressures. Maybe the dealership over/under-charged the system.

How many fans/blowers does the aircon system on a W202 have. When I press the EC button (on/off) I normally can hear a "second" blower kicking in when aircon is engaged.

Sometime this 2nd bloer is on and sometimes it is off when the aircon is engaged. Its normally when this 2nd is not blowing (while aircon should be on) that I dont get the desired cooling.

How does this 2nd blower works?

On my car (140 chassis, not 202), the 2nd blower you describe is(are) the electric fans in front of the radiator. They only come on when required, even with the A/C on. At least on my car, it is normal for them to cycle on and off with the A/C, especially when it's reasonably cool out.

It's possible that the switch that controls the fans isn't working correctly.

However, since you are having trouble after a service on the A/C which should have resulted in proper operation - I'd go back to the shop that worked on it.
