1995 E320 Vibration in idle
 

Hi guys,

I bought my E320 a couple of months ago and i'm very happy with it but last week I started to feel some kind of vibration when the car is in idle but in Drive (waiting for a red light for example) but if I move the transmition from D to N or P the vibration stops. When the car is stoped but in D, rpm are 600 or 700 aprox but if I change it to N or P rpm raise to 900-1000.

Is there some adjustment I can do?

Sounds like you have a bad motor mount.

How do you check the motor mounts to tell if one of them needs replacement?

You can have a mechanic inspect them to see if they look collapsed.

Also, you can put the transmission into drive, and with the foot on the brake, press down on the accelerator slightly, and have someone look at the engine to see if it moves up.

Repeat this procedure again by putting the transmission into Reverse.

If it does move up, then either the front or back motor mount is bad.

Also, if you can see the top of the mounts from above you can lift the engine 1/4" and see if any cracks or separation are present. Mine looked fine with the weight of the engine on them.

Dont lift too much or you will be the cause of separation.

You were absolutely right. I checked with my mechanic today and both motor mounts are collapsed and need to be replaced.

The funny thing is that I called my local MB dealer to get a quote for the motor mounts. They charge $200 for each mount and you can get those online for $60 each !! Buying online takes a 2 week delivery time to my country but with those prices I'll wait.
