I just want to tell you that this is an excellent thread. I have enjoyed reading your wonderful exchanges.

I removed my door sills recently and had the same experience. They just popped off, but I had to prepare myself to break them before I tried it for the first time. Those clips are quite surprisingly simple little buggers...and sharp!

Follow up on my new tyres.

I had 4 new Continental ContiSportContacts fitted on my W202 today. Size 205/55 R 16 W on standard 16" six hole/spoke sport alloys. Replaced a non-branded aggressive looking tyre caller "Star Millenium".

I bit the bullet today after a scary moment earlier in the morning. Joining a motorway in heavy rain, the ASR light flashed as I accelerated off the on ramp and onto the carriage way at about 60 mph. Then 50 miles later, rounding a sweeping dual carriage way bend in heavy traffic at 75-80 mph in the wet, the steering suddenly lightened and the tail stepped out about one to two feet. Took about 10 seconds to settle down.

New underpants quickly followed by new tyres.

What an improvement. As soon as I left the shop I could feel the difference. Much smoother in town and less crashing on broken roads. At speed, far superior ride and noise and much, much better wet grip (haven't tried dry yet as it is still raining).

Tyre was cheap(ish), too. I recommend this tyre. I mention this here simply because most W202 owners will read this post.

BTW, David, do you have part numbers for the illuminated door sill kit? Thanks in advance.

Jonathan,
I don't know if there are part numbers for the door sills? Maybe there are... but I don't think that they would comply with MB PNs.

I ordered it from Mercantile Europarts or some sort. His email address is not in my mailbox. If you want a contact, I can get the receipt, just let me know!

Mercedes has them for the W202 as well...illuminated (front) Mercedes Benz doorsills, not illuminated ///AMG and DTM doorsills. Just check their nonsense option book (a lot of nice parts to be found in there).

greetingz,

Are you serious? I was told that they WEREN'T available for the 202? I was told so many different things by so many different people though.

Do you think they are any different? I think the price is like $180 per door, or as I was told one time. Oh well, mine seem fine!

Gilly,
Oh yeah, that's right. I can't believe I didn't even think of that! I gave those papers to the guys at circuit city, but I don't know if they used them.

I guess that means I know part numbers! I'll post them up here later today! Sorry about that.

I've got an options book for the W202, but it is not up to date. It was valid from July 1996. I didn't think MB produced illuminated door sills for the W202 myself. I know they are available for the new C (W203?) but they cost an arm and a leg, 457GBP or roughly US$750.

Jonathan: David already has his and they are installed. MB introduced them after your book was made, I believe. It's a pretty obscure thing, only in a few accesory catalogs.

Yes, I am serious about all three possible options concerning the doorsills. I have seen the pictures in the catalogue, I have been informed about the prices and I have figured out that I did not want to pay the requested amount of money for stickable doorsills.

greetingz,
