window regulator removal on 300CE coupe
2 of the gears on the my drivers side window regulator are stripped. The motor is fine as are the gears on the motor. Can anyone tell me how to remove the 3 brass rivets holding the regulator the the inner metal door?

I think you'll have to drill them out.

You do have to drill them out. I've heard of people replacing them with bolts, at least on some cars. But a large pop riveter is available from Harbor Freight for under $20. The rivets have to come from the dealership - a few bucks for all 3. This is just one of the nuissances of the long door on the coupe.

window regulator removal on 300Ce
Thanks to both of you...that is what I thought was needed but did not want to proceed with asking first...I am always raving to my friends about how everything on a Benz makes sense and is designed so well...three bolts here with all the clearance that is available in this area would have made this job so much easier...thanks again.

bolts make for easier repairs, but not easier assembly - that's why auto manufacturers use them. If bolts will fit in the same holes and not have issues with clearance, then by all means, bolt away.

regulator replacement
I had to replace the regulator on my 300CE drivers side. I replaced it with a junk-yard unit ( potomac ) and it works fine. Removing the motor, spring combination looks like a pita - I think it was $100 or $150 for the unit.
Maybe an option when considering the cost of the replacement parts. |

window regulator on 300CE
Well I drilled the rivets out and checked the motor and gear which was fine. I took the regulator out and realized that 2 of the teeth had worn away. I cleaned all of the grease off of it, used a welder to build up some metal where the teeth had been and then using a triangular file made two new teeth. I reinstalled everthing using 3 - 1/2 inch bolts to hold the unit in place instead of the rivets, replaced the door panel and I am back to normal. By the way, while I had the door panel off I would tighted all of the screws and nuts holding the wood trim...all were loose.
