That was the ugliest (not to mention ghetto-rigged) Mercedes (/conversion) I have ever seen. That in no way resembled a W220 to me. I would suggest to never mod the car to make it look like a 220. Anyone who knows anything about Mercedes would know that your car was fake. I would not like it, I would find it funny.
But then again, whatever floats your boat!

To each their own.

If they like a glory pink MB, or an electric purple, or even done to expert rice-boy dimensions - its theirs to savour and for us to pass our comments.

In this case, if Chris is ever going to have a front conversion, lets wish him the best and wait for his pics.

Btw - I thought the pic @ http://member.nifty.ne.jp/VIPCAR/toyama/22.jpg was artistic.

But I would never find it in me to own one like that.

These conversions aren't cheap, and some of them look better than others. Like everone has said it's certainly not the same as the next model up, but if you like it, go for it. I have seen ads for companies in California that do these conversions in the DuPont Registry. You should be able to find a copy at a decent magazine stand or bookstore.

I recently saw a conversion of a 1986-1994 E class to make it look like a 1996-2000 E class. I made an equation to desribe what it looked like.

1 car with great engineering, old but still good
+1 body kit of lesser quality, but still a good kit=

One not so appealing car. The fit & finish between after market & factory is definately noticable even to the untrained eye. Like one of our members said earlier, "You get what you pay for"

It took me less than 2 seconds to tell it was a fake from that pic.

Heres my philosophy on the subject.

1) It is ok and it is cool to add "stuff" to your car. By meaning stuff, i mean TV's, DVD's, refrigerators, clear turn signals, etc.

2) It is stupid, and ghetto to turn a totally differnt model car to something totally differnt to spend less money and show off. Its like a person wearing a fake rolex to show his "money" off to girls. COME ON PEOPLES! I wear a real rolex everyday and dont own or would wear fake stuff to show off, if you cant afford somthing, dont get it.

Just think of how embaressing it would be if you had a conversion 140 to a 220 and go around telling everyone you have a 2000 S-500 and a pro walks up to it and says, hey man this isnt a 2000 car. Wouldnt you feel kind of dumb? Thats just my 2 cents on the subject.

Still keen, Chris?

Chris - I spoke to Juliet, the Marketing Director, who quoted RM22,000, or USD5,800 for the front conversion kit. She said its original from Germany. Includes the headlights, etc but stops short of colour match.

Hi Guys!

Sorry I am busted with work today and will get the pics tomorrow hopefully. Maybe YMSin can help coz them Bumi guys can do it!

I suppose all members out there are eager how the hybrid looks, Huh!!!!!

Well its a love it or hate it situation.

And YMSin, Yes my buddies are interested and if they have pics done on W-140's in M'sia will be helpful on any decision. By the way are they formed metal or fiberglass?

I am a little concern that the authorities will come on strong and give me a ticket for illegal modification of a registered model which is a W-140 but sports a W-220 front!!!!!!!!

Thanks.

V-Class V230

Hi YMSin!

My W-140 is getting to be 10yrs young in 10 months time and I am considering getting a Mobile Office like the V-Class a 7-seater MPV. And it sports a V230 horizontal inline engine.

The vehicle is superb for my logistics and events business and unfortunately there's nothing on the Forum that I can get add'l info on.

Over at Mbnz.org they have the V-Class category but site is still under construction.

We have some units running over here in Singapore but what about M'sia. I know the TMJ have one and it comes over every now and then. Let me in on any info of the V-Class appreciate it. Thanks.

Feel free to browse

Chris - does that mean you're gonna scrap your W140?

I spoke to Juliet this afternoon and she has agreed to give members of mercedesshop a 5% discount (as Swanee mentioned above). Just tell her you're a mercedesshop member and you're entitled to a 5% discount off your bill. Good huh?

Hi YMSin!

Yes I am seriously considering having my baby scrapped coz at the current rebates I'll get say close to 80K + another 10K for the body when exported. Otherwise the car will depreciate like 40% after it's 10th year and you have to beg buyers to buy it coz of add'l taxes up to a 50% surcharge on its 15th year.

With the residual left over I am considering a V-Class!

Hey the rebate is great stuff and I'll get my friend to contact them when he's in KL.

Thanks and appreciate very much your help.

Can't help you much with the V-class over here. If your friend has any problem(s) getting that rebate, do inform the Moderators here (any one of them) and I'm sure they'd know what to do.

All the best.
