Lost electrics in '86 300E....
...but thanks to this forum the problem was quickly fixed.
My 1986 300E slowly lost all power while on a interstate at night. First the antilock warning light came on, then the radio lost power, lights began to dim, and eventually the car died. A search in this forum suggested the voltage regulator and after following the diagnostics it was confirmed to be the culprit. The local auto parts store had the part ($35) and it took me about five minutes to replace. The pictures indicate the worn brushes, only one of them was making contact. Thanks to expertise in this forum for a fast, easy, and inexpensive repair. |

Car parts are costing too much these days. Regulator used to be around $15 2 years ago. I am wondering if it is made of petroleum.
