94 s600 where is the 38 pin diag. connector located

And are the pins numbered? I've had enough with this damn asr. I'm going to jump out a few pins :D :D :D :D :D :D .

Thanks Gang!

Assuming things didn't change from '92 to '94, AND the connector you're referring to is the diagnostic port connector, it's under a cap on the computer housing. Passenger side of the engine compartment near the hood hinge - large metal-topped box of about 7" wide x 14" long. Cap about 2" diameter near the front of that box.

The pins are numbered but HARD to read (think small print down in a dark hole). Numbers start at 1 on the left-most pin (towards passenger side) in the row towards the back of the car. 2 is to the right of 1, etc. When you get to the end of one row, move back to the passenger side of the next row and continue counting.

Be aware that this port is for getting diagnostic codes from the various systems in the car - I don't believe there's a way to disable any systems from this location.

There's a difference between "defeating" ASR, i.e. preventing it from engaging when it wants to engage, and disabling it to eliminate an ASR light/limp home problem. I have searched the files extensively and contend that noone has ever successfully disabled ASR to get out of the limp home mode. I'd love to hear about it if anyone knows how to permanently disable ASR to bring a car out of the ASR light/limp home problem. It seems to me the only way to fix the problem is diagnose and repair the root cause.

Still trying to figure out which pins are 1 and 6??

I noticed at the front of the connector i saw a number 4 but that was it. Most of the pins are not in a row alot are staggered. Does someone know where i can find a pin-out diagram or drawind indicating the numbers?

Thanks Gang!:o

I had heard on a 126 equipped w/ ASR some had popped the cover of the ASR module and pulled some relays buried in there..Doing so made the ASR light come and prevented it from intervening. Might be worth a try on an early 140 just to see what happens.

I'm pretty sure the pin-out is the same from the 300SE to the 600SEL.

Here's a PDF with the diagram of the pins. The top of the image orients to face the rear of the car.

Thanks 2 all who replied, where is the asr module located?

Thanks Gang. I would ve lost with out this site. Seriously thinking about selling ir trading my S600 4 a Ford Expidition or a Navigator. $ sure if this doesnt work out. Hard to do, because when the damn asr is off the car ride like a dream with tons of power. O well.:dizzy2:

Just saw your post . . . check my pages, MENU#2 for a pic of the 38 pin Diag Connector w/ explanations for all of the pins.

Check Menu#24 for "ASR limp-home" problem with the ETA. I shorted the two pins forcing it into a diag-mode but it didn't 'fix' the ETA problem. Just a stop-gap.

If your ETA is bad, it's fix-it or sell-it. And for a S600, you may need two (2) ETAs as both could be bad.

Thanks jim !!!

I think i wanna cry now :behead: . Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy o god, whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. lol !! Thanks for the info. What do you guys thiunk about the earlier posts, about reseting the asr relays? :idea2:. Maybe just maybe... My asr problem only happened once or twice every 6 months. Then about a week ago i got on it pretty hard and right when i let of the accelerator, the asr came up. No, biggie i thought i could just pull over and turn car off and turn the ignition a few times as to reset it. Well this time it didnt work. Yesterday the asr went off upon crankup, for about 5 to 10 minutes then she came right back...??

cibrspeed 12-20-2006 12:16 PM

can i clean eta's?

just thought i'd ask.

Hey Jim !!!!

Jim,
I wnat to thank you for letting all of us know about AUTO RX ! Man that stuff works wonders. I am on my 2nd cycle and i already see a MAJOR difference. Car is quieter and runs great....well that is except for my little ...ha ha ha ha ha ....asr issue. :P

Owning a 12 year old 600 MB is not for the faint of heart. You really should be a DIYer and a fairly accomplished one at that. It's arguable that no one should own a 12 year old 600. It sounds like a Navigator or an Expedition would be a choice.

JimF 12-20-2006 02:45 PM

Sorry you're having ASR problems but as deanyl says, you need to have a DIY spirit when you own these 140s. My 'bout' with ASR happened a few years ago . . . and if you own a MB, you will most likely have a problem with it!

My C140 has been exceptionally good since then but a few days ago, the closing assist when out on the passenger side door. It's fixed now and it wasn't costly but that's b/c of the DIY mode. See Menu#28.

Also check out the Pete's V12 site and suggest you bookmark it. Very good pictorials on "how-to-do" for your S600. Great article on ETA repair.

Auto-RX: it's the best 'stuff' to come along period! My car has the 'zip' of new car. Still use it in the maintenance mode.

I just read my codes from my little red led next to my "CAN". They blinked 5, 6, 37 and 38. Anyone know what these codes state?

JimF 12-20-2006 08:12 PM

5 Exhaust gas recirculation inoperative
6 Idle Speed Control (ISC) faulty

37 EGR of Left LH-SFI control module faulty
38 not used

You can use my MENU#6 for you codes except for the higher order numbers that I don't have but the codes are mostly the same.

May have a vacuum leak or bad egr or plugged egr tube for #5 and #37
Bad or going bad ETA for #6
