New vibrations- only in the morning

My W124 is giving me fits!!!

I had this happen only once before and it was a slightly loose wheel. In the morning it vibrates horribly (rear wheels) then after several miles of 70 mph the 40-65 mph vibration is gone completely for the day.

I've got all new suspension rubber, flex discs, rear axles in the past 2 years.
I've felt the tires (20k miles old) to see if there is a tread seperation and couldn't find one.

Next day same thing,

Morning Sickness ?????

You may have flat spots on tires from sitting over-night...

You may have a caliper sticking.

May sound crazy, but I had same problem and I think I fixed it accidentally. A few weeks ago , I noticed an exhaust leak at the weld where the pipe meets the silencer that's just in front of the axle. I sealed this leak with a bit of high temp rtv silicon (temp fix). Since this fix, no more vibration when cold and car runs much more smoothly on the highway.

I'm leaning toward checking the new axle as possibly defective-

Never experienced that-but it did make a few clicking noises right out of the drive way-then it was fine for a while, now the vibration reminds me of failed rebuilt axles when they are self destructing... Checked wheel torque.

Just need some time and a warmer day!

Michael, What kind of tires do you have on the car?? My Brother put a set of Bridgstones on his 750il and they are doing just as mentioned in an earlier post. Flat spots from sitting overnight. He says it is bad,bad for the first while then its perfect like you say for the rest of the day. Tom 89 560 sel

Tom,

Interesting, I believe they are RE950's. How did your brother diagnois the problem? I guess I can drive it for a few more months and see if a tire goes or axle.
