Scrubbing noise from steering wheel on 2000 E320.
Hi all.
MY 2000 E320 developed a scrubbing noise when turning the steering wheel. It is coming from inside the cabin. Any experince with this? Could it be the electric contacts for the horn and the air bag? If so do I need to remove the steering wheel to check/repair? Thanks, Alex |

Yeah, that is what it sounds like. I have never heard tell of that before.
I would leave removing the steering wheel to a professional, because of the airbag restraint system. Good luck!

I had the same problem with my 92 500E. It comes and goes. I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem and diagnosed it. Without pulling the steering wheel, it is at best a guess what might be causing this.

On the 2000 E320 it is most likely a dry rubber piece the steering column runs throuh into the engine well. It is dry due to heat from the exhaust. A little lube there will help. Common on these.
