Question Climate Control Question

'92 300SE. Noticed the other day that unless I close the damper on the rear seat air duct, cold air always comes out of that vent, even with the heat on.

All the rest of the aspects of the climate control behave as expected.

Any suggestions?

That is the way that it is designed..only fresh OR air conditioned air comes from that vent.

Heated air comes from under the seats

Great - glad to know it's by design.

I'm slowly working the kinks out of the car and just had the CC control unit rebuilt. I thought this behavior was strange before I sent the unit in and that the problem would stop with the rebuild, but it didn't.

Funny that the manual makes no mention of this fact....like so many other things they leave out or include in such a manner as to make it unintelligible.

I guess I was looking at those outlets like they were an extension of the center outlets in the dash - i.e. with the heat on, no airflow from those vents (unless you push the red or blue buttons on the vent assembly).

Thanks for the reply.
