Love the 116 body style and see a 1978 450SEL 6.9 for sale. Are there things, positive and negative, to be aware of with this particular year and model? Appreciate any insight anyone might have.

Thanks,
Ray

The 6.9 can be either a great car or a bottomless pit. It has A lot to do with how well the car has been taken care of. Most of the "affordable" 6.9s have gone through lots of owners and neglect. Excellent cars still bring $20K+. Bringing one back to life is an expensive proposition that usually exceedes the value of the car. On the other hand, they are fun to drive. I've owned a 6.3(the 6.9s older sibling) for about 15 years and it still surprizes me every now and then. Just the gaskets to go through the motor were $1500.00. But then, if you play;you pay
