300TE Indicators not flashing
 

Hey guys,

My indicator lights come on and everything works, but they do not flash and there is no clicking noise when the indicators are used.

I looked in the Haynes manual...but couldn't seem to find it.

What is the unit that controls this and where is it?

You mean the fuse box? If so, yes I checked it.

The lights come on, it just does not go on and off like it should during signaling.

I'm having a little trouble even on google finding this...

Might it be the same on my 300TE? Part of the Hazard Light Switch?

Anyone tell us where the Hazard relay is and if anyone has any ideas on how to get the direction indicators working again?

On my 190 the relay is behind the fuse box. I resoldered circular crack around a pin on the back of the circuit board. Pin activated the points to the turn signals and flashers.

Rock emergency flasher on and off rapidly to see if flashers activate.

(I just replaced mine).

It's called a "multi-function relay" and it's in the compartment just behind the fuse panel. Take off the fuse cover. Raise the hood to full vertical. Unscrew the relay panel cover (just a few turns, the bolts have a backing that keeps them with the cover even though they have been freed from the base. There are also two bolts at the front of the row of fuses closest to the front of the car). The largest black box at the middle of the set of relays is the the one! You just wiggle it up and out while holding down the base of the relay panel.

About $84 here. $30-40 at a MBZ recycle/salvage yard near you I'm sure. It seems to be the same part for any of the 124's.

Yes they flash manually(thats what I've been doing recently), they just do not flash automatically by themselves.

My guess is that the points on the multi-function relay are stuck on closed. If so solution is to replace relay or repair it with a touch of fresh solder. To repair remove relay, take off protective box cover, examine back of circuit board for circular cracks around pins that protrude through the green circuit board and resolder any spots that are cracked. Alteratively visit Fast Lane and say hi to Phill.

Thanks for the help guys. I took off the cover and replaced the fuses inside that box(they were originals it looks like). Next I took out the circuit box, opened it up but saw nothing that looked wrong and put it back in. Then just tested it and the flashers worked again. I'm assuming just a bad connection for the circuit board or bad fuses(but they looked ok...)

I hope you are right but... it might not be fixed... just "working again". Circuit board cracks are mysterious... sometimes they make contact and at other times they don't. Your moving the relay may have caused a crack to make contact.

If it quits again get a magnifying glass and look for circular cracks around the pins on the back of the circuit board. You cannot see them with the naked eye.
