Hello again,
have another question:
I am rebuilding the head of our '88 190E 2.3. I am about to start re-assembling it tomorrow. One problem that I am concerned about. If I have the cam with the little notch where it belongs, (perpendicular to the floor and facing the drivers side) and the #1 piston is at the top of it's stroke, what position does the rotor go? I have looked at all the books and I can't find a difinitive answer. The timing chain has some slack in it so I don't know exactly what position it was in. Please help.

Thank You,

Kyle

The rotor electrode should be at or near the number one cylinder contact in the cap. If you have put it together correctly, that's wher it should be. If not, then the timing has moved and will have to be corrected. BTW, ther are two TDC's for 4 cycle engines. First is TDC on compression, second is TDC on exhaust. They are 360 degress of crank rotation apart. Make sure you've got the correct one. The next cylinder in the firing order will be the next plug lead the rotor lines up with.
