While checking wiring over the weekend I found the engine control unit on the left fender well. It was attached by one of 3 screws and was quite loose. I got it back tight and checked the connections but it seemed okay. The Idle went bad after warm up and the control unit is really hot. How hot is this supposed to get? Anyone know cost for this if it needs replacement? Is there any way to test it? Thanks in advance!

It sounds like you are talking about the ignition control unit. IF it is silver and behind the driver's side headlight.
They will be in the Fast Lane. Check there for a price. |
Any way to test it?
Thanks Donnie
Yes, it is the silver control behind the driver headlight. It looks like it would get hot and there is plenty of ventilation there. It is kind of expensive and I am playing a game of musical parts. I think I'm losing. 1. Is the Euro part the same as the US 500SLE/SEC part? 2. Is there a way to test it? Is it supposed to get hot? Please advise. I the car will die, but only after a long warm up. I think it could be the control unit because I have already replaced a lot of idle control parts. (OVP Relay, Idle control, Air slide valve and fuel pump relay.) Steve...
If you end up needing a new control unit, you can always get one via salvage by checking here:
http://Car-Part.com Should run anywhere between $100-$350. Make sure you pull all of the numbers off of yours. Heck, if you don't mind, post those numbers for me as well. Willy |
