replacement fuel pump

Hi guys is there a universal fuel pump you recommend to use in replacement of the very expensive oem fuel pump. I have a friend that has a 1974 450 sl. I also do not know what pressure and volume (GPM) the original pump is? I know you can get a universal pump for under $100. Thanks for any information.

There are only two pumps I know of that fit this car, one for racing (very expensive) and the following OEM unit.
