Bilstein replacement for E320 4-Matci
 

Has anyone replaced their OEM shocks with Bilstein shocks. What was the result? I have checked w/Bilstein and they make a Sport and Heavy Duty replacement for my car (wagon model) I am not sure which to consider, I want a comfortable ride, I use the car as a family cruiser not a sports car. Any experience?? Any suggestions??

Bilstein HD's & Sports have the same valving.
Firm, but not harsh.
The Sports have a shorter shaft, to be used on cars that have been lowered more than 1 ". ;)

I used HD Bilsteins in my 560SEL. Firm ride, but not uncomfortable. A fairly common "upgrade".

But like ellington wrote, it's a personal pref.

Used the HD's on the front of my '97 E320
 

I like the results. They are very well damped and give car a nice solid but comfortable feel. Will do same on the rear soon.

Bilstein TC Shocks
 

If you are offered the Bilstein Touring shocks - walk away! They are a "price point" product mfg in the 3rd world and I have had a number of problems with fitment on several Euroipean makes.

Example- Volvo 240's- the rear shock mounting eyes are too large allowing play and an annoying "tick" or "knock" develops that won't go away and cannot be "shimmed" away.

Bilstein USA knows about this problem but will not do anything about it.

Went back to Bilstein Pros and problem solved.

BTW- All of the Bilstein TC shocks offered on Ebay suffer from this problem and it is well documented on a number of European car forums.

What is wrong with the OEM shocks, you also have to remember you have self leveling with hydraulic struts in the rear (not shocks) dont even go to the idea of removing the system.
