As a footnote, the tubing sizes are different on each side. Drivers side is 5/8" and passenger is 3/4".

When I tried to get the 3/4" tubing to go, it just wouldn't no matter what I did. Finally, I used a rack and could see that the hole is smaller on the driver's side.

This is for a W140 . . .

And 1 yr or so later, there's two nice little puddles where I've been!

I found it!

OK, last nite checked my parts car, an '88 300ce; pulled the car and found the drain hose - its about a 5 inch length of thin sheathing material, almost a combination of cloth and ducttape, surrounding a corkscrew piece of wire preventing the material from collapsing, and it goes straight down into an open drain hole. The material is very thin, held onto the barb by a plastic "screw" which goes over the top edge of the sheathing material. Wondering how those who replaced the original drain material attached the new hose - wormscrew clamp? Please advise.

BTW, If this tubing isnt causing the water problem on my 300e, I'm going to be scratching what's left of my hair.

I used reinforced vinyl-tubing (the one with the blue/white fiber weave) and secured them with zip-ties (I have stainless steel ones).

Happy to report that after I took the carpeting off, I discovered there was no drain tubing there at all!! Completely gone. The foam mat under the carpet also was soaked, so thanks to this forum I have solved another problem. Thanks guys.

Based on trying to attach a 3/4 inch ID hose I had lying around, which was too small, it seems like the correct inner diameter needed to get over the barb is 7/8". Will report back after I get the right size.

I used 3/4" ID 1" OD. Photos earlier in this thread. I did heat the hose to soften it for installation.

Perhaps the hose I first tried was only 5/8" ID, I didn't really measure it. However, on Saturday I found a dishwasher hose at home depot, with a preformed top of 1" OD and 7/8" ID , and the balance with a 3/4" ID; worked like a charm; hardest part was determining the proper length to cut the hose, I think it came out to about 4-1/2 inches. As a small bonus, under the side carpeting I found about one dollar of loose change from the previous owners!
