the clutch pedal on my 190e-16 started staying stuck on me 3 weeks ago. i have to bend down and pull it back up, and then it works like nothing was wrong. it is still doing it at least ounce every week.
any suggestions? could there be air in the system?

On my 190e 2.6 I was just poking around in that area, there is a spring that assists the clutch pedal. If something is funny with that mechanism I could see it failing by holding the clutch pedal down. Also, on both my Peugeots there is a rubber hose that runs between the clutch slave and the chassis, then a steel line to the clutch master, that has gotten clogged and done strange things. I'm guessing Mercedes does the same thing so it could cause problems.

You probably have air in the system and/or a leaking cylinder (either the one at the clutch pedal or the one at the transmission box).

If a restricted flex hose is suspect, the test
is, when pedal does not return , open bleeder at
slave . If yoke returns , it is a possibe hose
or above. If yoke does not , it is binding from slave /or
throw out linkage.

Scott,
Sounds like you have a bad slave cylinder. It's located on the bell housing. They cost about $50-$100 depending on which car you have. Easy to put on, but a heck of a job to bleed.

I had the same problem with my 85 16V. I had to change the master clutch cyclinder, the slave cylinder, the hose that connects from the brake reservior to the slave cylinder. After that I still had the same problem with the clutch not popping back up. Bleeding the system again. Now for the pass month, I did not have this problem. Total Cost was about $400. I had my mechanic do the job. But it could of been done cheaper if you bought the parts at the benzbin.com and DIY. I didn't have the time.

Regards,

John
