quality of 1986 500
i am currently looking at a 1986 mercedes 500...8 cylinder block with 186k
no issues mechanically except for a minor transmission leak from the pan that is going to be fixed and a problem with the internal heat ... the car is going into the shop and the price is 2400... is there anyone out there that wouldn't do this deal??? there are no oil leaks...and everything else is mechanically sound...what of the quality of the mercedes gas engines??? are they as renowned as their diesels??? i am currently in a 1980 300sd.. any opinions would be helpful... lyle in fresno, ca |

ASSume that the car is a "euro" version? USA 500's were 1984-85 only
Some shops shy away from euro cars..as some of the conversions to USA specs leave a lot to desire. Also some insurance companies have problems with the 14 digit VIN. In California the emissions might present a problem.
