Arrow Selling Opinions

Hi all,

WDBEA51D9LB096106

I am putting the car up for sale, but I would really appreciate everyones' thoughts on pricing. What is a reasonable price to ask and what should I realistically expect to get for it????

I have a 1990 mbz 300ce with 112K miles. The title states ACTUAL MILEAGE of 110K. The exterior is fully upgraded to a 1995 model with fresh charcoal paint and has gray leather interior. I also added a wald front fender lip and a remus dual tip exhaust. The window are of a smoke tint. The interior wood is new and has an expensive sound system with 10 speakers and an alpine head unit. I also added a nice wood/ leather steering wheel. and nicer leather shift know with the mbz logo. Everything is operational.

The car has been lowered with H&R springs and has new bilstein sport shocks. The car sits on 18 inch mono-replica rims that are a little more convex than the flat amgs. Rims are wrapped in brand new Nitto 335-40-18s. The front fenders have been rolled for optimal clearance.

New parts:

rear bumper
wald from bumper add-on
remus exhaust
euro headlights
s-class grill
mbz flat emblem on hood
e320 hood
e320 trunk lid
smoked/red taillights
fresh charcoal paint
roll up center console
new plastic that lines side of seatbelt posts and faces windows
new glove box interior liner
performance parts white guages with chrome rings
new black MBZ carpets
water pump
hose connecting water pump to block
aux. water pump
wiper nozzles
windshild wiper
wiper pumps
all wiper hoses
wiper reservoir
wiper heater
egr valve
egr tube
eha
radiator
radiator hoses
thermostat
fan shroud
injectors w/seals
fuel filter
fuel pressure accumulator
fuel pressure regulator
hose connecting fuel rail to fuel filter
intake manifold cleaned
distributor cap and rotor
spark plugs
spark plug wires
tensioner
serpentine belt
various hoses connected/near intake manifold
a couple vaccuum relays
ovp relay
at. kickdown solenoid (located just left of transmission)
smog pump
battery
a.c.c. push button unit
fuses
temp sensor (4 pronged)
transmission gasket and filter replaced
front rotors
brake pads
seat cpu
right and left seat controls
O2 sensor

Any previous problems have been corrected and the car runs like a dream. Idles at around 500...cant even tell the car is on at idle.

Oil changed with mobil 1 synthetic

I am sure I am forgetting a few other parts that I have replaced. The point is that Ive taken care of this car.

Photos would help (heck, I'd like to see them even if you weren't selling it). You've customized the car in good taste, but you'd have to find a buyer who has the same tastes as you. Not easy to do.

Really hard to say a price - nothing to compare it to. I'd guess $7000 on the low and $9000 on the high. With as much as you have in it, you ought to keep it.

I have five questions and a comment.

Mileage 112K, Title 110K. You say you have this car. Did you just buy it for re-sale? I don't see how you get a title with the current mileage any other way.

Where did it live it's life, geographically speaking? Where is it now?

Any record of a headgasket replacement?

What color is the coolant?

Market for these old cars is limited to begin with. When you take a car far away from stock, pimp my ride, you restrict that market in the extreme. Many of us find that un-appealing. However, if you find the right buyer, they may perceive the value of all the add-ons, repairs, etc and pay you a premium.

No, I didnt plan to buy it for resale. I expected to keep it, but my attitude changed. It has 112.5 on the clock. Ive driven it enough to iron out the kinks. The car has always been a project for me. I see something wrong inside or outside and I get the urge to change to new or update it. Ive done that with every car I have owned.

The car is originally from florida, and I believe that I am the third owner. I think that the second owner lived in South Carolina, and the car currently resides in downtown Charleston, SC.

You guys arent going to like the answer to the coolant question. The coolant is green, but, I may flush it and refill with MBZ coolant when I get a chance.

I didnt change the head gasket and I dont have any record that shows a change in the gasket. My next purchases would be a wiring harness and gasket changes. But, thats gonna be another couple grand.

In 1995 i paid 4800 for a stock 89 300CE with 124k miles.

I thought I paid a fair price. My car had been maintained well. The only obvious updates were new wood in the front.

i plan on keeping this car forever.. or close to it...

i guess you just have to find someone who wants some of your improvements. I have updated my wheels to 16's with S class rims.

I will post pictures soon. The car is definitely not 'pimped'. I tried, and succeeded, in making it look as if it were modified by the factory.

stay tuned

I went through a period that I wanted to sell my 1990 300E. I love the car but was fed up with the upkeep and hassle. Thanks to this forum I got all the kinks ironed out and the car is as close to right as I can get it. At that point I approached a Mercedes-savvy used car lot owner that I know about trading or selling it. His comment: "The worst thing you can do with any asset is to sell it right after you just put a lot of money in it. You need to drive some of your investment out of it before you sell it since you won't get out of it what you put in it anyway." Good advice. I'm keeping it now since it probably won't depreciate any more and any other car I buy will probably need work too.

Tastefully done. Posting good pics with your sale will only help you (not true in all cases). I said $7000-$9000, and I still stick with that, but after seeing the pics I'd say you're closer to $9000 with the right buyer.

Yes, I agree with you on the not pimped thing. Very nicely done.

You have dumped a ton of money in that car. The new paint, if well done with quality materials, has to be a plus. Those wheels and tires must be over $2,000.

All you need is the right buyer!
