W124 E320 93 Trans repair or rebuild?
Hi...
I have been facing issues with reverse gear for almost 3 weeks. The car used to vibrate when gear goes into reverse, then it would back out. Now the car wont go into reverse or will move very slowly. If the car is parked for a while it will be easier to reverse it, but when hot it would barely move backwards. I checked with 2 mechanics, one diagonised the problem tobe due to reverse clutches, the other named a part in the gear box that had a 'brake' in it, cant really remember. Is there a way to diagonise the problem precisely or the trans has to be brought down and inspected? How long would be a resonable warrantee period for a gear rebuild? Thanks Modi |

If it is the original transmission...
it is 14 years old!!!!!!!! Do a rebuilt...even if you sell the car in the near future, you can show papers that the transmission was rebuilt. Either way you have to fix the problem and they have to lower the transmission anyways. Use a mechanic who is familiar with MB's.
Good luck!

My highly regarded MB mechanic charged $1,500 installed for a rebuilt tranny with a one year warranty in my former 1993 300E (3.2).
