94 E320 Vacuum modulator replacement questions
1 Attachment(s)
I have to replace the transmission vacuum modulator and as is often the case things are a little tight.
I don't have the transmission CD so a couple of questions: I assume you can do the job without dropping the rear of the tranny slightly? There is an electrical connection to the tranny just below the front retaining bolt that needs to be removed (in my opinion) to gain better access to the bolt. How is that electrical fitting removed? Picture below. Thanks John |
To start with spray some rust lubricant in the area of those rusted bolts.
I always drop the rear trans cross-member & push the trans toward the passenger side & keep it there with a board. With a 1/4" drive 5mm socket you should be able to remove the 2 bolts W/O removing the B1 protection switch. |
To remove the connector, turn the knurled ring that the connector seems to go through. It unscrews just like a nut and then you can pull the connector off.

Replacing modulator
When removing the modulator make sure to pull it straight out (no sideways pressure) There is a very fragil pushrod beneath the modulator.

Thanks everyone, I will remove the cross-member and gain some space.
