Hi,

I would like to get a complete restoration of a 1990 w126 that I own. Unfortunately, the Mercedes Classic Center won't take it yet, so I'm thinking about sending my car to Silver Star Restorations. Does anyone have experience dealing with Silver Star? Or are there other restoration shops I should be considering?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

You'll end up spending a lot less money if you find one that is still in near mint condition, buy it, and then finish off the little stuff.

Agreed. I've been restoring my cars 560's and it takes an inordinate amount of time & $$$. Also, what kind of restoration are you looking for? Everyone's definition varies quite a bit.

I've seen reports on the net that Hatch & Sons is no longer in business -- otherwise I would be very interested in sending my car there.

where are you located, its really easy to restore a 126, but ofcourse highly dependent on what s wrong with your car.

If I was going to sink a pile of money into a restoration, it would be on a car that would be worth something when finished. The w126 will be worth only a tad more than it is today.

I hear you, but I like the car and I've got the money. I just sold a newer model in favor of keeping the w126. It's not an investment. It's the car I want to drive, and I'd rather restore it than buy a new car.

P.S. to the earlier poster: I'm in the Chicago area.

Then do it - the best reason for restoring a w126 is that you love the hell of that car. If you can pay, then go for it.

From what I know, Silver Star has a good reputation.
