Wipers cause car to stall
Anyone have any ideas what could be the problem? I just changed all the fuses. They work fine on the 1st setting (Mist), but if I put them on settings 2 or 3, the car won't take any gas and pretty much stalls while driving. This is a major hassle especially when I'm on the freeway. If I turn off the wipers and put the car in park, for about 5 minutes everything is fine again. Any help or knowledge on the subject would be greatly appreciated!

First guess would be there's something seriously wrong with the wiper motor - it's drawing all sorts of current, causing other systems to fail.
However, if it could draw that much current, shouldn't it pop the fuse? And why would a single sweep (mist setting) work ok, but constant sweeps be bad? Headlights draw more than wipers - no problems with the lights on, I assume? This has got to be voltage related - do you have a way to measure voltage while this is occurring? I think Radio Shack makes a meter you can plug into the cigarette lighter. Check for voltage when you switch the wipers on to low speed. At speed on the freeway, you shouldn't see any noticeable drop at all. Does it do this while sitting still? |

pleae give full detail of your year series and model, and by the way no such thing as the wiper motor drawing all sorts of power/current that can cause your problem.

Wipers
I didn't look in my troubleshooting manual but I would replace the ignition switch! Mike
