starts only when gas is poured into throttle body

1978 450SE. after that it runs perfect. but while I'm watching it run sometimes 10 to 20 minutes, the flap drops a little and the engine dies. after that sometimes but not always i might have to pour some more gas to restart. any help will be appreciated. thanks.
