Looking at 85' 190e 2.3

Guys I'm looking at 85' 190e 2.3 has 265,000 and is automatic. Any info on what to watch out for would be greatly appreciated.

As long you realize that the car is 22 years old & has already lived a long life then spend your $500. I would have the car looked over first.

Thanks for the advice. I will take the car to shop. Is there a standard service I should ask for? How many hour should I reasonable pay for?

After 150K miles, people just tend to wait for the car to die on them. My advice is buy the service manual and be active on this forum. You'll save a ton of cash.

What color is it?

It may be my old one if it had some history in Alabama.

color

Black. How much did you sell it for? Think it came from SC.

Well mine was blue when I sold it

It had about 165K on it when I sold it in 98 or 99 for $3500. It was probably worth a little more then, but it went to a good cause: a starving German intern.
I got it from a serious chain-smoker, and it still probably has an interesting nicotine-MB-Tex aroma about it.

I bought a non-running 87 2.3 for $500 that we quit trying to get running and are selling off for parts. I bought an 89 2.6 auto with 83k miles, dealer serviced for $2900 back in September and have only had to replace the soft tires the po had on it. About three years ago I picked up a 'pimped' 87 2.6 ( I think it was an 87) for $1200, with no issues other than removing the black out tint, neon, chain license plate frames and some other odds and ends in the interior. No stereotyping here, but we did go over the car and found it to be drug free. It was a good buy, kept it about a year and sold it for the same price. Definitely pay the $50 to $100 for a thorough PPI. David
