w202 power steering change/flush interval?
 

Have a growing leak where the line from PS reservoir connects to radiator. Fluid is almost to "min" mark, so I guess I need to get a new rubber hose and add fluid. PerhapsI should change it? My Haynes manual shows no specified interval for changing it. Does it need to be done? Filter?

Some (like myself) change the fluid it every 30K. Not a lot of fluid is involved and it's cheap insurance to have the old fluid and contaminants flushed out every so often. Your filter should be at the bottom of the ps reservoir. I've attached an image of what you ps filter looks like.

Kestas - how do you access the filter? I don't see any reference to it in the Haynes manual. I wonder if 202's have them?

It looks like maybe that filter is just for the power steering pumps with the round reservoir on it?

Which diagram matches your model? The upper one has a filter (Part #137). The lower one probably does not. Even if your model looks like the upper diagram, I see a footnote about the filter being optional for some reason. If you do have one, it's at the bottom of the reservoir.

I was planning to service my power steering too. When I remove the cap/dipstick, just inside the reservoir is a white collar ring with a narrow hole in it for the little dipstick to go in. Is that the filter? If so, how do you remove it? If not, it looks like I would need to remove the white collar to get down into the reservoir.

ETA: Mine looks like the lower diagram, with Nos. 17 and 20, and Part 162 being the cap/dipstick.

Is it possible mine does not have a filter at all?
