W210 mono wiper not working
 

Hi all,

I have a problem and do not know where to start looking for a fix. First some history:
Car was "on blocks" for two years until I finally finished the top side rebuild (original problem was blown head gasket). I have replaced all fluids and flex brake lines etc. It _was_ a great ride until last night. It has started snowing here and on my way to work, the wiper started slowing down and the bottom part of the wiper blade had a lot of chatter. This was strange because there was no snow accumulation since it was melting as soon at it hit the glass. After about 15 min of this, the wiper stopped in the vertical position. When I go to work, I taped the wiper with my finger and it slowly made it back to the park position. When I got off work, I heated the car up and tried the wiper (I had removed all the snow before starting the wiper) and nothing happened. The switch seems to be sending a signal (I can hear all switches on AM radio :dizzy2: ). The only change I had made was installing a new wiper blade a few days ago. The parts store said 24" although it looked a little bit longer than what was on it prior. Any ideas what can be wrong?

You will need to remove the wiper motor assembly, disassemble it and grease the sliding mechanism and eccentric.

Do a search and you will find several posts in the archives with adequate information to complete this operation.

I saw this post during a search, but can it be done in the park position? I cannot get the wiper to the vertical position via the swich. Can I turn the switch on and move it by hand without breaking anything?

Yes it should be possible to do it in the park position.

I wouldn't recommend moving it until you've at least attempted to lubricate the mechanism.

In addition to the guide, it might be worthwhile getting a tin of silicone spray and reaching the parts that grease won't get to.

no never move the wiper arm when it get stuck, go thru the proper proceedure in order to eliminate or avoid breaking parts. go thru the recommended sites for your repair proceedures.

A quick update
 

Just thought I should drop a quick note to update this project. The base of my wiper is not the same as what was pictured on the UK site. It seems to be fit along sides and not underneath. I was unable to pry the base cover off. I was able to get the upper cover off and lubed that with some Lithium grease (Rotella brand). This has the wiper working like a charm, even though I was unable to totally dismantle the unit. When things warm up a bit, I will try to spend more time taking it apart and doing the job "right".

Remove the part that you removed, again. At the base of the wiper there should be an allenbolt. Remove that bolt, and the wiper arm should come free.

Then you should be able to better remove the larger plastic cover.
