89 300ce will not start at all!

My 89 300CE started right up with outside temperature
about 40F. After 10 minutes the engine stalled while driving about 40 MPH. Coasted to a stop, and the engine
restarted but died again.
Towed to the shop it started right up(1/2hr.later)
While test driving it stalled at speed again.
Replaced fuel pump relay. I drove approx. 100 miles
over three days with everything OK
Yesterday with temps in the teens car would not start.
Cranks real strong but not a hint of starting.
Fuel pump runs with key to start. With pump running
(jumper at pin 7&8 relay socket)there is a whining
sound at the fuel distributor .
I could use a few leads. I have the 103 manuals if I need
them. Thanks Jimmy
