New Plugs now higher idel
 

Just repl my 190e 2.6 plugs with new @.032 gap, went from 700 rpms to 1200 on cold start, works down to 900 when warmed. Was very careful not to displace or break any vac lines, what happened, old plugs were nice and dry with good color. a 200 rpm gain when warm with only plugs seems a little odd. any suggestions. (My first Post), Moonshine

hoped you replaced with non resistor plugs.

I don't know what to make of that RPM increase. You're sure you disturbed nothing but the plugs?

Let us know if your MPG increases also! :)

Look around the linkage to see if any thing is in a bind,you took the air cleaner off you may have bound something when you put it back on, if not look to see if the little round wheel at the back of the linkage is tight or if it is free.It just sounds more like that type of a problem than any thing else.JNT:kid:

There is no need to remove the air cleaner when changing plugs on the M103 engine. The plugs are NOT the cause of the higher idle. Either something was disturbed in some way or the high idle occurrence at this time is just a conicidence.

Ok you guys just wait, summers coming, my newly aquired 1990 1290e 2.6 5speed will hit the high country, Trail Ridge road, Rky Mty Natl Park, 10,758 elevation, then down swithbacks to Grand Lake,country, then to Steamboat Springs, thru Craig, over to Dinosaur Natl Park, down a 15% grade to the confulence of the Green and Yampa Rivers, Sleeping in the dirt, over to Colorado Natl Monument, Glenwood Springs, Vail and Loveland Pass, back to Loveland Co. Wife says have at it, she will hit the malls in town. Not bad for a 71 yr old, will advice you low landers what how she preforms (the car, not the wife)....hehehe. Moonshine Oh yea

So you got it fixed? or is the here and yonder whims of 71? Well no need to let any one know,Though I too have made all of those scenic trips in an old truck, days past but not forgotten.JNT

Thanks for all the responce on my higher idle with new plugs, I am real SURE I didn't displace or break anything, was rear CAREFUL, only replaced the Autolites which was regapped from .042 to .045, looks like about 12,000 or so miles on them with (Shame Shame) NKG's TR5 @.032. No pior miss, started 1st crank with the old Autolites, this in 5degree weather This is a new veh for me, had only run one tank of 91octang with mixed driving, netted 25mph, looking forward to see whant the NKG's can do.Smooth and silky, just a little high idle
