Can the ignition switch for an 83 240D 205 K miles wear out to the point that it doesnt complete the circuit12 V to the starter solenoid? Once in a while, I had to jumper the solenoid because car wouldnt start 50% of time by switch. I finally ran a new violet white wire from the switch to the solenoid, and everything was great for 3 weeks--until when else--today at carpool.. Either the crimp came loose, (havent looked yet) but does the switch go bad? If so, how do I order an identical keyed switch? http://members.home.com/rtc9/BENZ.html |
Cars Meow,
This may sound crazy to some, but check terminal #30 on the headlight switch. Yes, the headlight switch. Its easy to remove. Just yank the knob off and remove the large nut. The large red wire comes off the starter and feeds 12 volts througout the car. Bill Lewallen; Lexington,Ky. Home of RDC Bearings... |

Cars Meow,
Another thing I discovered today. The hard way, of course. The purple wire from the starter solinoid goes to a relay, starter/AC clutch. This relay is located in the black box on the left inner fender in front of the brake master cylinder. There is also a fuse for the climate control there. If this relay is bad(or unpluged, like mine was) your car won't start. Neither will the AC come on. Bill Lewallen; Lexington,Ky. The place of fast horses and dumb asses... |
Yes this is a great site!!!
Thank you for your help, all of you. You have helped me before Mr. Lewallen!
