Good day gents,
The exhaust manifold for my 2.3l 190 is cracked. Was this a common problem? Has anyone had any success welding them? Was there ever a recall? Would any one have one they wanted to sell?

Had same problem with '91 2.3 190E. My tech said that this is a common occurrence with that car. I believe MB had a recall for cars that were within 50K miles. Mine was beyond that.

Found a mobile welding service that came to my tech's garage and welded it. Crack was slightly visible from the top but wrapped around under the header. Had to be done on a hoist.

The welding worked perfectly. Cost about $75. I elected to do this because it was a 'quick' fix. Didn't know if it would hold but it did.

One suggestion: Remove the O2 sensor because mine died after that operation.

Good evening,
My 89 230TE has asurface crack on the top of manifold,I was going to change it but MB gave a price of $400 just for the part!!!!I have elected to wait until it starts blowing but now I will see about getting it welded.Did they have to remove the manifold to do it and did you wait until it was blowing or as soon as you saw the surface crack?It seems to be a common problem as one went on afriends w123!!

Now you know why I welded it! To expensive for the new part not counting the labor to r&r.

Nothing was removed; all welding work was done in place. But had to be on a lift since my crack was partially visible from the top but the cracked extended to the underside of the header.
