When I shift to reverse gear, I have to wait for almost 3~4 seconds to get into reverse gear. but when operate the other gears, they are fine, just only in reverse gear. so I am wondering what happen to the reverse gear? can I adjust the shifting timing or somtthing?

You can't adjust this out without taking out and apart the transmission.

If the car is a 1994 S500, there was a valve body mod to increase the fill rate of the reverse clutch pack. However by this time I would think that the reverse clutches are worn out!

Are you low and oil?

The oil is always enough. by the way, the car is 94 S500, so MBDOC just mention something about the "reverse clutch", shoud I have them change? are they expensive?

A tech article from The Star (http://www.mbca.org/MBCA_parts_wear_out.htm) mentions that delays in engaging reverse may be a sign that the tranny needs an overhaul. Hopefully that's not what's required to fix it...
