w124 mirror covers

Hi all,

I have an 89 300e and want to exchange the original non-painted black mirror covers with a set from a 94 e320 (painted)

How do I remove the covers?

Thanks,

Sam

Put a very small flat screwdriver, or something similar, in the groove and slowly pry it apart.

As an aside, I am not sure if covers from a different model year will fit, but if not, then you can easily paint your existing ones, or get a body shop to do it for you.

A forum member sold me some mirror covers from an early (pre-93) W124...they didn't fit. I did send them back (money returned), but it was a lesson learned.

Despite the nearly identical looks of the W124 for the 9-year model run, there were some changes made along the way...

You don't.

You buy complete new (later style) mirrors.

I managed to disassemble the mirrors from my wife's 89 260E and repaint them. I wasn't easy to separate the back but take it slow and it can be done without damaging anything (I removed the mirrors from the doors). A small plastic trim tool worked well instead of a screw driver. I wetsanded the backs, epoxy primed and top coated body color and they look great. They even survived me clipping one on the sliding garage door that I hadn't opened far enough.
