How do I install new bezels in headlights?

I have a 1989 420sel. A friend gave me some bezels to put on my car.(mine are both broken). How do you replace the bezels? I know you are laughing, but I am a lady and not a man. I was able to replace a rear light with instructions from this form. I felt like I had really accomplished a lot when I did it! Thanks

No, really, we don't laught at anyones question

But, I really don't know what you mean by the headlight bezels. The lights on your car are different then my W123, but I think pretty much the same system is used to remove the headlight in all Benz cars of this vintage. Open the hood and behind the headlight is the electrical connector, one for sure and possibly two. This electrical connector or connectors will have to be disconnected from the light assembly. Then around the light, on the back side are three large plastic nuts, designed to be turned loose by hand. On my car I think they are round and white , about as big in diameter as a quarter. Turn them all the way off and you should have the complete headlamp assembly in your hand in about 5 minutes. At that point you should be able to exchange any part on the assembly and reinstall is as easy as taking it out. It can be a little dirty in there, a pair of gloves would probably serve you well.

I changed the Bezels-Thank You!

After I got your message, I went out to my car and did it! I can't believe the satisfaction I get from doing it myself. My car looks much better! Your instructions were good. Thanks so Much. Jane

That's wonderful!

It also makes us all happy. And of course it is a very, very important part of this web site. And we all share that satisfaction of being able to service our precious old Benz's to a greater or lessor degree. Because of the forum, I definetly will tackle services on my car that I would not touch, if I didn't have the forum to fall back on. So just remember, we don't laugh at any queries. We might joke about somebody who is making a perposterous claim about his Benz on Ebay. Matter of fact, we see quite a little of that. But when you have a service question, the only dumb question is the one you don't ask.
