Certified Used, is this decent?
1993 300D2.5 N/A
VIN: WDBEB28E3PB867434 $11,900 Mileage - 130388 says "nice older body style diesel with a turbo" It's a diesel w/ auto transmission and perfect body/accessories. Anyone Know anything about this model? I'm real good w/ cars though I'm not sure if it's worth taking a chance on the classifieds in the area, so certified seems good. |
What is the seller certifying?
If he is certifying that he is selling a used car, that should be pretty obvious.

Almost $12,000 for a 14 year old car? asking price a little high?
|
What's he certifying? $11,900 is high for a 1993. For that money, you could get an under-100k 1994-1995 or a w210.

If you post this in the Diesel forum there will be a big collective laugh at the asking price. If you have the time and patience you should find a similar car for $8-9000. $12,000 is 96-97 E300 territory.
That's a great car if in good condition. Ideally you'd take it to a reputable independent MB shop for a prepurchase inspection. What exactly does certification buy you? I might be tempted by a one year bumper-to-bumper warranty but I expect certification means brakes and tires pass inspection and the exterior bulbs work :/ Sixto 93 300SD 3.0 |
There is one in the SF Bay Area on craiglist for $4900 and if I remember correctly, it is newer too.

tough crowd!
don't be discouraged by our 'tough love' advice. this car may be too expensive or you may be able to use our thoughts to negotiate the price down to something reasonalbe. be sure to have a pre purchase inspection, especially if this is a first mercedes purchase. the basic soundness of a benz is so great that inexperienced buyers can be fooled into thinking that the condition of an average car is excellent and pay too much or buy a car with subtle defects that become apparent after purchase. good luck. the 124 body diesels are prettty bulllet proof but have some weaknesses that need to be checked by an expert.... specifically have the climate control system checked by a benz specialist, and probably you should have a compression test and leakdown because sometimes they have head gasket leaks. 124s are not my strong suit. tom w |
