Battery question

Hi,

I have a 1999 E430 Sport. The battery has died and I need to replace it. I have 2 questions: Where is it and how is it accessed? I think its under the rear seat, but I dont want to just go pulling on stuff. Also, when the battery is disconnected to install the new one, are there codes or something I need to enter in some way? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The battery size is 49 and is under the rear seat. You can call 1-800-for-merc (1-800-367-6372), you will pay for battery only (a little more than $100) and they will come to your place to install and reset necessary codes for you.

Wow that is very generous of MB USA.

Couple years ago I had a battery replaced at a MB Canada dealer. Had to pay 0.3 hour labour, which wasn't bad I thought.

I knew about MBUSA hotline but after pricing around, checking specs etc and
scouring BMW and MB forums, I opted for Autozone's group 49 battery which
came to $65 plus tax here in Seattle a week ago.

After a battery disconnect for the 99 models, there may be a need to reset
roof, windows, seats....and most likely radio, so be sure to have radio code
on hand if you still have OEM head unit.
