Advice for removing flex disk?
1990 300E. I just recently replaced the evaporator, neutral safety switch, shift bushings and resealed the PS pump, so I thought I'd replace the flex disks next.
Well, the rear is fine but the front has tons of play. I removed the trans crossmember and supported the trans. HOW do you get the 19mm flex disk bolts and nuts loose in that tiny space?? They seemed to be very tight, too. Nothing would budge. Of course, I AM laying on my back under the car (ramps, two jacks, jackstands). Can anyone shed any light on the details of getting that flex disk out of there? I gave up and put it all back together for now. Is there a DIY somewhere? Thanks |

You have to get the driver's side rear wheel off the ground, then the driveshaft turns easily, allowing you to reach each bolt in bottom position - not that tough. Make sure you're safe as the car is in neutral and the emergency brake is off.

I removed my rear flex disc first so I could turn the drive shaft and also allow more clearance to slide the drive shaft back and remove the front flex disc.
Overall, it's a very easy job. |
