W220 PCV valve?? is this the "A.I.R." system?
I have an '01 S500 that is beating up the oil pretty bad. TBN drops to 1.9 in only 6k miles w/ M1 0W40. I suspect faulty crankcase ventilation, but my dealer said the car does not have a PCV valve, instead he said it has an air pump (?).
so I looked up "emissions control" parts on one of the OEM car part sites, and it lists an "A.I.R. pump" and an associated "check valve". is this analogous to a standard PCV valve?? if so, how do I inspect/change it? if not, how would I check/repair crankcase ventilation problems? Thanks! |
The air-injection system has NOTHING to do with crankcase ventilation at all.
PCV is done thru orifices & hoses at the valve covers. |
thanks MBDoc.
have you ever seen crankcase ventilation issues with the 5.0L? is it a simple task to remove those hoses and clean 'em out? you can view the latest oil report for this car (along with "arm chair expert" comments) at... http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=818519&an=0&page=0#Post818519 |
