300sc?
a friend of mine claims to have seen a car that looks just like the first gen SD's but they are badged as 300SC...i've never heard of an SC and im pretty sure they dont exist (atleast ones that resemble first gen 126s) I asked him if it said SE but he was sure it was SC...so what car did he see?

There was a 380SEC here and there don't know about 420SEC here, and there were 500SECs and 560SECs. I don't think they ever put a 6 cylinder in the W126 coupe body. All V8s.

There was never a W126 vehicle badged as a 300SC.
300SE, 380SEC, 126ers, yes, but never a 300SC

Mercedes made a 300Sc model back in the mid '50s. It was sold as a coupe or cabriolet. They had the same engine as the 300SL gullwing, though it was detuned slightly with a different fuel injection system. Every poece of trim was hand fitted to each car before being sent out for chrome. They cost around 14 thousand at the time, if that tells you anything.

at that time the "e" designation stood for Fuel Injection. All of those cars had fuel injection, hence, no SC

Quote:
The 300d sedan, the 300SL, and the 300Sc were fuel injected, but did not use the "E" designation. The "d" and "c" designation refer to the evolution of a particular model. For example, the W111 body 220SE is know as a 220SEb to distinguish it from the first W128 body 220SE, and the 300 sedan series cars from the '50s had 300b, 300c, and 300d designations. The 300S coupes and cabrios were also designated as 300Sb and 300Sc cars. Mostly to denote running production changes. The first 300S cars had Solex carbs, the last of the 300S cars had fuel injection and were known as 300Sc cars. The rear bumper had the word einspritzung cast into the center, the German word for fuel injection. |
