What is the best way to take the badging off of the trunk lid? I want to take off the C220 and just leave it blank. Will there be any fade? The car is smoke silver, and the paint still shines like new.
Any help would be appreciated. Best wishes and take care, George Androulakis |

Discussed a lot in the search area. On some, badges are glued on, some are bolted throught the paint. The glued on ones often come off by heating the inside of the trunk to WARM, not HOT, with a hair dryer, and then using fishing line or dental floss between the paint and badge, with liberal applications of "Final Inspection" while doing the flossing. WD40 takes off any residual glue on the paint. The paint may not be faded (wasn't on my '87), but there may be a faint outline where the numbers were from the paint being deformed slightly under pressure from the letters being applied. Also, the clear coat was obviously still slightly tacky when the letters were put on at the factory, as a very thin section The edges show flow marks and rounding, so I know it didn't come off with the badge. Not visible except up close in certain light. Try a search for more info and opinions!

Well most people have used fishing line or dental floss, but the fishing line I think is stronger.
Then you can use wd 40 to remove the gummy adhesive left over or something else that will remove the adhesive. If there is slight fading or discoloration, clean the area thoroughly with a good buffing compound that is not too abrasive and that is safe for clear coats as well. You will want to buff it from time to time until it completely blends in. You should also do a search of the forums by using the search button above to the right. There are a lot of good tips on removing the badge and all. Alon

I took off the C250 badge on the left of my trunk lid and the DIESEL badge on the right of my trunk lid with the help of a little screw driver...The adhesive layer on these badges are thick enough to get a small screw driver behind it and my nails were strong enough to do the rest of the pulling (a screw driver might scratch the paint when making a mistake).
After the badges are removed you can polish the badged area and all will get clear again. I did the same with the 300CE-24 badge on my W124...just pulling it off... greetingz,
