Queston for the dealer techs...
Can you remove the speed limiter on a late model MB with the SDS?
I know the aftermarket guys can do it, but is it as simple as hooking up the SDS and turning it off, or up to a crazy number like 250 so it will never affect you?

USA models can't be changed...
Starting in 2003, flashing of fuel computers require SCN coding. That involves the GOVERNMENT..they are trying to limit changes that can alter emissions.

One of my clients' asked me this question a few days ago. It seems he's not very happy that his 2007 CL550 is electronically limited to 130MPH. He vows to take his case all the way "to the top", whatever that means. The funny thing is, it was right there on the window sticker. I guess he was too busy reading the bottom line to notice this minor detail.

I'd be pissed to. A MB like that should be faster then a regular car, if a 10 year old Mustang can pull on your $150k S600 over 130, well now isn't that embarresing.
So I guess the only way to get it fixed is to have say Renntech or Kleeman kill it.

Tell me how fast can you go when you've got speed limits all over the States.

I would never go over 65mph on public roads and break the law.

I certainly am not going to drive at over 130 MPH on any public roads in the USA. It's too dangerous, unless you're very careful about conditions. Most drivers who drive very fast tell themselves that they're in control, but unless you drive the route first, and ensure that there are no other cars, you are not in complete control of your destiny.
That said, Hatterasguy has it right. What if I want to make it an off-road car? The the feds have nothing to say, but rather you listen to whatever racing organization you're under. Perhaps you can get parts from Germany to make this possible. |
